My Samsung S27A850D has 4 USB ports on it but when my KB/mouse is plugged in, it does not work at all.

How exactly are they meant to work?

This is a review on it: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/samsung_s27a850d.htm

It was bought by OcUK so are my USB ports faulty?

I'm wanting to be able to use my keyboard on mouse on my PC connected to my monitor. Then plug in my Macbook and use it the same KB on my MBP because my samsung is the second monitor for i.t

IIRC the usb ports on a monitor are a hub and you need to connect the monitor to your pc usb ports first.

You then have the convenience of the ports on your monitor instead of poking around the pc case.

You'll need to use a cable like this to connect to your computer, you won't be able to switch between keyboard and mouse for each device without swapping this cable between each one.

Couldn't I just get two of these USB Male - Male cables and then unplug my MBP when I'm not using it?

Also, the cable you linked is wrong right? It's meant to be a USB Male to another USB male not the smaller type? Or am I wrong?

Looks like the right cable from this image.

You plug the reg USB A end into your computer, and the USB B goes to the bottom port of that picture, which gives you 3 USB 3 ports to work with.

You could buy 2 cables leave them plugged into the machines and swap at the monitor end when not using, whatever is easier to get to. Or you can buy 2 in 1 out USB switches, but don't know if they would do full USB 3 Speeds.

Look at the manual for your monitor I linked.

Then look at the two USB plugs on the right of this picture, you need a cable with one on each end to connect the desired computer to the monitor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#/media/File:Usb_connectors.JPG

You are not connecting the regular ports to each other, there is a square type-B plug somewhere on the back which you connect to the computer.

Just realised.

What sort of latency would I expect?
