How to wake desktop pc up

I would like to wake my desktop pc(win7) up from sleep when accessing the shared files from my laptop.(winxp)

Ive searched on the net, but I cant figger it out, Ive changed the bios to wake up on lan and changed it in windows aswell, But still my desktop wont wake up from sleep when trying to access its files from laptop?

Ive heard and messed about with magic packet, but didnt get anyware.. do I need software on both desktop and laptop for the magic packet thing to work?

Thanks guys, I couldn't get magic packet to turn on my desktop but fusion wol does the job great.
