Hey,

This is one film I've always wanted to watch the 3D version of, as I've heard its one of the best 3D movies done, and watching the 2D version, I can see how it was shot with 3D in mind.

Anyone have suggestions how to stream it legit in the UK on the Q2. I don't think either netflix or prime have the 3d version to view. The quest main movie app thing (can't remember the name of it) that often shows legit films, always tells me that I can't watch cause I'm in the UK, its USA audiences only.

The one where users stream films the quality is always crap.

If you want to watch Gravity in 3D then I have it and could run a Big Screen theatre for you to watch it one evening. The quality will depend on how good your internet connection is though.

Friend me on Oculus and we can hook up.

I also have a huge library of other 3D movies that I can play on Quest.

To be honest, Gravity is OK in 3D but I wouldn't say it's one of the best.

My Oculus and Steam user names are Ravenger, and you'll know its me as I have a Southpark style profile pic with a sniper rifle.

I was just about to say that Ravenger was the guy to talk to :)

If are watching this on a day I am free, I might join you guys.

That's a very kind offer, "big screen" was the app I was thinking off and couldn't remember. I'll look u up on oculus over the weekend

I've run 3D movie screenings a couple of times in big screen and they've been pretty good. A great way to socialise as well as watch 3D movies.

That’s insanely cool that you can do that on the Q2. Always keep meaning to try something in 3D on mine. Surprised it’s allowed though, surely it’s not legal?

I have all the original 3D blu-rays (I collect them), so my movies are legal copies. It's like inviting people around my house to watch a movie, and Big Screen has always had the option to share movies or your desktop. I never run public sessions, only for friends.

However it's easier to host a movie on the PC version of Big Screen. You can watch movies fine on the Quest 2 though - you just can't stream them to other people without running a PC streamer app.

Sorry I wasn’t implying you were at fault or anything like that - just in case my post came across that way. I was more wondering the legalities of BigScreen being allowed to have that functionality.
Personally I think it’s a brilliant function to have. I loved 3D movies, gutted home 3D TVs didn’t take off. Was devastated when my old Samsung 3D tv packed up. :(

No worries! Yeah it's an interesting question.

3D movies on the Quest 2 are incredible - they work better than in the cinema. I've been buying every decent 3D blu-ray I can. I even got Dune in 3D, though the conversion on that isn't amazing.

It's getting harder and harder to find 3D movies though (at least decent ones I haven't already got), as studios aren't releasing them on 3D blu-ray, even when they have a 3D cinema release. For example the latest Spiderman movie had a 3D release, and so did Venom 2, but no 3D Blu-Ray :(

Shut up, I hate you :p

Forgive my idiocy but how do you go from disc to Q2. I’m sure I’ve still got a couple of 3D blu rays kicking about and the player is gathering dust in a cupboard.

Edit: sorry to op for the mini hijack.

Avatar is great in VR.
that's what got me hooked. and also, believe it or not, My Bloody Valentine 3D. there's a part in it where an axe gets thrown at someone and you get a split second view from their perspective as the axe hurtles towards them. always made me duck, everytime must have watched it 3 or 4 times. used to get my films from LoveFilm for a few quid a months sub, figured 3DTV was around for good......wish i'd bought more discs now :(

There's various ways to do it, but I won't go into it in detail here, as it may fall foul of the rules. (Converting your own legal media to a different format is a bit of a grey area).

It's easy to find solutions via search engines, and you'll need a decent CPU and a blu-ray drive in your PC.

The main thing is the final file needs to be in side-by-side format where the left eye is one side of the image and the right the other. Applications like Big Screen and Skybox can play these as full 3D on huge virtual cinemas, and the Quest resolution and lack of SDE really does it justice.
I almost entirely watch movies on my Quest now. Even 2D movies look great.

I'm sure I looked into this a while ago and I thought everyone in the room had to have the movie?
(sounds like I'm either miss-remembering or it's changed, can you confirm only the "streamer" needs the movie? Could have done with this during lock-down!)

Cheers,

Ah ok. No Blu-ray drive in the pc and nowhere to put one even if I wanted.
Will still read up on the the process though. Thanks for the info.

Nah, it's a desktop sharing thing, so only the streamer needs the content.
