How to /what to use to clean exhaust tip?

i was wonder this as well the other day , tried to use a damp cloth , but cant get the black bits that are burnt on the exhaust tip.

Autosol and different grades of fine wire wool gets good results

+1

You'll only get it looking a certain amount of nice if it's not stainless but the standard exhaust on my 106 looked much better after I'd been at it. Got most but not all of the carbon deposits off it.

Stainless obviously can come up gleaming with sufficient elbow grease.

Use the finest grade of wire wool you can get (It's 0000 grade or something similar), and use that with glass cleaner to begin with, then use a cloth and metal polish to bring it up to a shine once you've removed most of the crud. This is mine before + after with this method :)

Took about 5 minutes.

To be honest your tip doesn't look that bad so I personally would try the finest first, and if it didn't work, then go through the three one after the other.

You won't do any harm by starting with the roughest though.

Autosol is amazing! I tried some Autoglym Metal Polish and it was **** in comparison.

Autosol turned this;

with very little effort.

Wire Wool + any decent metal polish product.

I sue Megs NXT metal polish. Awesome stuff! Use a microfibre cloth to buff the tip once you have finished though.

I bought some Autosol to clean up my chrome exhaust and it's worked brilliantly. I don't have any wire wool so I just tried it with a microfiber cloth and it cleaned the exhaust up with minimal effort which I was surprised at because it was covered in surface corrosion and all the usual stuff you get from a diesel exhaust.

I didn't take any before and after photos, but I'm now looking for more cars to try Autosol on :p

Various grades of emery cloth then metal polish on a cloth

Probaby feel a bit gay afterwards

Edit- as yours isn't that pitted you may get away with cleaning with a kitchen/bathroom degreaser then just polishing . Only one way to find out
