Right, I've just (last saturday) moved into my new flat and got round to setting up an ISP on wednesday. Ended up going with ADSL24 and they got back to me saying that my net will be connected on tuesday.
I connected my router today to make sure that I had all the bits, put in my login details and it connected.
If I open up a browser it refuses to connect to any servers, I can't log into MSN, or recieve emails using my email client.
However if I go into the DNS lookup within the router and type in the URL I want and click find the IP address and then enter the IP address into the URL bar in the browser it goes to the web page.
It doesn't work for all pages, like ones where there is a url embedded within the page and it reads from that after the real page address.
If my internet is active, which it seems to be, why don't they just let me use it?
And why can I access the net via IP but not the url?
And finally, can I get a slap on the wrist from my ISP for using their services before I'm meant to? lol.
