I have the following spec PC (not clocked) and want to play BF3. I don't mind lower detail and turning off the fancy stuff but do want smooth game play.

Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156)
Asus P7P55D Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4830 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI

I'm I asking too much or will I be OK with the above spec?

It will run fine.

I have the same expect for I have a 5770 and get 30fps max on High settings.

So you will be all good to play!

Great stuff.

Yeah I know it's quite old hat now but I'm too cheap to upgrade it just for one game :p

You'll need to run at a lower res, and put up with the random fps drop here and there, but you should be able to play (but no the sp, it's cack).

With that 4830 it'll run abysmally actually.

You can get a decent card for about £150 now that would be great for running it on high. Something like a GTX 560 :)

I'm looking forward to it even more now :p

I'd love to buy a new card but I'm saving for 10 months in the US next year so don't want to play £150 just to play one game.

She can't change you ;) 560ti only £149.99, and then when they fix Batman you can enjoy that too.

YEH you should defo check out the members market for a GTX285 with a akasa cooler on it :) would run the game great if there happened to be one available. :P

She's not changing me matey, I just know 10 months in LA isn't going to be cheap lol.

Does BF3 prefer Ati or Nvidia cards?

Hard to tell, AMD are still releasing new drivers to improve performance. I've got a 4890 and 4870 in cfx just for this game to last me till after xmas. :>

i have same question for my pc

i use a GTS250 with Q6600 and get about 45 FPS on Auto/medium settings with 1280x1024 Res (4:3 monitor), im looking to get a 6850 or 6870 or GTX 460 or 560, which should i buy and what FPS should i get?

Your card has 1gb of ram tho. His doesnt. 512mb seems abit low for bf3 imo

Agreed, BF3 eats up VRAM in all tests i've seen. 1GB is what I would consider a decent GPU for BF3.

He could give it a go, but he'd be looking at a low res with low details and no AA. His card won't even support MLAA, should be though on par with 360 as it runs at just under 1280 x 720 on a 360. They say on the PC 1280 x 720 with MLAA enabled or FXAA etc with low detail is what you'd be looking at on the 360 or PS3.

Me, I played the game on my laptop of all things with a ATI 5650 1GB at 1366 x 768 for online with meduim and no AA and for the single player I upped to 1600 x 900 MLAA no in game AA high details for most and SSAO (I think) and no MSAA and it coped really well..

Its a good game if you've got the kit, single player was a little lacking mind.

My 4870 was running fine on medium @1366x768 and it only has 512mb of vram. Afterburner said it was using 500mb. I threw in the 4890 so I could get some high settings. ^^
