I have a partition on the main drive so there is drive D too, and then a removal usb hd.

Where do I install it if I want to be able to choose to boot XP or Vista?

Please help, I'm a n00besh.

boot from Vista CD or DVD and install vista on the partician that is not your C drive. I wouldnt install it on the external USB hard dive...too slow.

You will then have XP installed on your C drive and vista installed on your D drive. You will get a message a bootup asking what version of windows you want to load...select it and you will go into Vista or XP...whatever you want. Its called dual booting.

Do a search...
