How would Windows 7 Pro run on the following spec used maily for word processing and internet browsing:

AMD 64 3.4GHz
1GB RAM
128 MB graphics

I don't expect it to be blistering fast obviously, but the machine currently runs XP which has died and needs reinstalled, i have a copy of 7 doing nothing and was thinking of putting this on rather than XP again...depending on performace?

Win 7 or XP?

You won't have a problem running Windows 7. I actually have a PC with the weaker specs as yours and it has Windows 7 now.

Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz
768MB Ram
128 MB Graphics

It can barely run Windows 7 and leaves me with few spare RAM for programs. Considering that 512MB goes to the OS, you're better of with XP. I'm planning on reformatting back. :(

Runs absolutely fine for those tasks with 1GB - and I'm not just saying it, I manage computers that work all day week in week out with 1GB RAM (less actually if you minus video memory)

dont see a problem i had to upgrade a dell celeron to windows 7 unlimate and it handle it alright, yeah a waste but if that is what my customers want and that is what they get, dispite i recommend them to go for a new system, as you already know dell are hard to upgrade., had to do some system mod to get the gfx working but that is what the winxp compatible mode is there for.

System Spec:

Celeron
RAM - 1.280GB
HDD - 80GB
DVDRW
GPU - onboard

It'll run fine, but I would get some more RAM. If it's DDR2 you can pick another 1GB, or a 2x2GB kit up for cheap. But, that's just me, I would get more RAM even if I was running XP :D

You could have a play & install W7 without activating? If it's rubbish (for you) then go back to XP.

If you know someone with windows 7, ask them for the disk. not to get a full version. but the 30 day trial, see what you think of it

It would run fine for those tasks but would benefit from a new hard disk or another 512-1GB memory.
