How would you improve this system?

Hi,

I've got about £300 to spend on improvements to this system:
Q6600 at 3.2GHz, 8Gb ram, 9600GT, 150Gb Velociraptor OS drive, 2x500Gb RAID 0 data drive, 1TB back up drive.

It runs mostly Lightroom and CS3 (soon to be CS5) on top of the usual Office/internet etc and doesnt do gaming.

I was thinking in terms of SSD to replace the Velociraptor. Interested in what else I could do.

I kind of built it hoping it would do 3 years but I've got the urge to upgrade something. I dont think the budget can stand a mobo/cpu swap and I'm very glad I went for 8Gb back when memory was cheap.

SSD's are very fast with all of the aplications. You could get the 128gb ssd for around £300 but I wouldn't raid an ssd as the TRIM support won't be enabled.

Everything else seems great for what you want it for

What monitor are you using? If your mostly photo editing might be worth upgrading that?

The monitors a calibrated HP LP2475w.

Forget my idea...lol.
You could aways save the £300 until you decide to build a new system in the future.
If the money is really burning a hole in your pocket then get a ssd.

I thought about waiting until I build a new system but thats 2 years away and upgrade-itis is very difficult to resist!

I suspect I'll be going for an 80gb X-25M shortly

I'd sell the Q6600 (around £70-80), RAM (£80) and whatever mobo you have, and get this as a replacement:

Plus a decent cooler to overclock well. Should be a good upgrading path.
