Ok ive just ordered a few components from OCUK and like usual im thinking have i just got that totaly wrong?

Im wanting to update as my current rig is struggling with BF3. My first plan was to just buy one of the FX4100 Bundles @ around £250 but after a little research i have yet to read anything great about the cheaper FX range.

So what I have done is buy the following components (from oc):

Asus M5A97 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Asus Axe Square Limited Edition Gold CPU Cooler

These have cost me £150 and i plan to use them with my existing GPU (HD6850) and CPU (X2 545). I thought I might get some fun out of overclocking and possibly unlocking cores on my existing CPU as my current mobo never let me (Its an old foxcom which has got a parralel printer port that kind of dates it) If this does not give me much of an improvement i then plan to invest my spare £100 in a X4 965BE.

So the Question im posing is what would you have done with my £250 budget.

P.S. this is my first post so go easy on me and yes i did choose that cooler just because it looks good.

I ordered it 1am this morning (payday) order has been dispatched. Am i fairly limited with the stuff ive ordered? Ive just always been an AMD man.

Ok so im goin to try my hardest not to open any boxes and attempt return. Is it worth keeping the ram?

Ok so if I go 2500k not in a bundle what would you suggest. Also going this route will probably mean I need new psu as I have only 450w. And putting my budget at 350 really is the limit as im supposed to be saving for a wedding and im doing this on the sly

Should I just keep the ram and cooler I bought (was only 14 quid) send the mobo back and buy the 2500k and z68

Ram was same price so going to keep it. The cooler was only 14 quid and be better than stock for now if not Il just put it on the mantle piece cause its so pretty. Ive requested a return number for the mobo. As soon as I get it il order the 2500k and z68. Is there any other difference between oem and retail. By the way thanks a bunch for all the advice. Does anyone else get the I want it now syndrome waiting till tue is going to kill me.

Have sent the amd mobo back and have just ordered the i5 2500k retail and the gigabyte z68ap d3 which cost 276 so a total of 331 including ram and cooler. (not taking into the 30 it cost me for delivery) so 81 quid over budget thanks to you guys. Im sure the advice is all spot on and il be happy with it come monday / tuesday. Will it all still work if I leave the amd sticker on the case. Not sute I can stare at a blue sticker all day.

Not going to make any difference now as ive ordered but we have a bundle at work with the h67 board which seems fairly cheap. Whats the difference between h67 and z68 mobos.

Ok so ive got my i5 and mobo installed but had to use the stock cooler as im waiting for a bracket from OC for the ASUS i ordered. Ran core temp and im getting a difference of about 7'C across the 4 cores at idle i.e. 0=28 1=34 2=35 3=28 similar difference on prme 95 0=68 1=72 2=74 3=70 is this going to cause any damage untill i can install new cooler (3 or 4 days). By the way thanks again for all the upgrade advice think ive gone the right route 3D mark CPU score before 2407 after 6249.
