your really stuck at the moment being on the 10 day "testing" period. As you mentioned, each time the router is switched on and off it can interpret it as a error.
Really with a 10dB line attenuation (means your really close to the exchange) with a sync speed of 6/7mb your Noise margin should be a lot higher.
Generally the lowest most ISP's use for the Noise margin (also known as SNR) is 7dB, once it goes below that, you might start experiencing drop outs.
Something on your internal wiring might be artificially lowering your noise margin, which will limit the top sync speed. With the short line you have, you could easily be reaching 20mb speeds if your ISP provides that service.
Plugging directly into the front of the master socket, without removing the face plate will not remove any internal extensions which could be lowering your noise margin. The ring wire mentioned was used "back in the day" as a means of making old phones ring, it is not really needed any more and can pick up external noise from electrical equipment, all sorts of things really, thus causing your noise margin to drop, thus limiting your maximum sync speed
Hopefully that makes sense lol!
