So it's been a number of years since I last looked into building and I've felt a bit out of touch whilst looking at parts and trying to put things together. As things currently stand this is what I'm looking at:

Motherboard -

£71, Asus H97M-E S1150 Intel H97 DDR3 mATX

CPU -

£269, Intel i7 4790k

RAM -

£58, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM HyperX Fury Black Series

SSD -

£75, Kingston 240GB V300 SSD

HDD -

£38, WD 500GB Scorpio Blue Internal Hard Drive

Graphics Card -

£260, Zotac GTX 970 4GB GDDR5

Power -

£50, CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 ATX PSU - 500 W

Monitor -

£198, AOC G2460PQU 24 inch 144Hz Widescreen LED HDMI Multimedia Gaming Monitor

If anything looks particularly overpriced or out of place then I'd appreciate it if you let me know.

I'm also debating whether it's worth paying a bit extra for an advanced cooling system so I feel fine about overclocking the CPU, I really don't know too much about either cooling or overclocking however, so any and all help on the subject would be appreciated.

Hold on.

IF you want to overclock that K CPU you will want a Z97 board.

The PSU is not that great.

There is better cheaper RAM available.

But!!

What case is this going into?

Is it to replace what is in your sig?

It's not to replace what's in the sig, that's my brother's specs from a while ago, probably worth mentioning.

And yeah sorry, I totally blanked on the case, I meant to ask about that. Cheers for the advice on the RAM and the board, would you reccommend around 600W for a PSU instead?

For a couple of quid more you can get a 1TB HDD. Worth it.

Get a better PSU as Stulid spec'd.

Okay, I've reassessed and made a few changes.

First off, I don't currently need the extra space a 1TB HDD provides but I didn't realise how little the price difference was so yeah, thanks for that one. It's not like more space can hurt anyway. /shrug

I'll be going for the Z97, I had that buried in my list of potential options somewhere that a friend had suggested if I went for OCing so yeah, cheers again.

Thanks very much for the case and PSU reccommendations, only thing left to do now is decide on cooling options. Sorry for so much hassle but like I said if there's any one area I know absolutely nothing about then this is it. :(
