Main importance is to run UT3! Would this be okay?

Whats the difference between the Samsung drive 18x18 and 20x20?

Bugdet is no more than £1200

Thanks Carl :)

That all looks good to me, it will run UT3 will ease. Prepare for the usual "Raptor drives are a rip-off" posts though.

Howdy, thanks for the replys

Ive read a few reviews on the OcUK store about the raptors and it does exactly what i want, load windows and games faster, the only on the raptor will be the OS and games, this is true right?

I have Hiatchi 2x160GB SATA II harddrives for storage and a Hercules digifire 7.1 sound card running Logitech Z5500/Cambridge A5-Mourdaunt Shorts

a lot of people on here have 22" monitors that are the same res as 20" and have GTXs, its so im 100% certain i can play the latest games at high settings, is it really overkill?

Im unsure about the case id like the Lian-Li PC-7 but cant purchase it from OCUK.

Thanks Carl

the raptor is just like any hard drive and you choose what you want to put on it.

putting os/apps/games is a good idea and put all your data on your other drive. price vx performance is a difficult one. there are some other very good drives that will give you MUCH more space for very little performance difference. If youve got the cash, they are nice to have but not a neccesity (sp)

the lian li is a superb case....

ps. sweet spec

I would say the GTX is overkill for the reasons being that, by the time you get anywhere near maxing out that card on that resolution, something better and most likely cheaper will be along.

Now, it depends on what you want to do yourself. If you plan on upgrading and so on. But I can't help but feel settling for a 640mb GTS and taking a nice portion of the budget off, would be beneficial both now and in the long term.

The GTX is a very good card, I just think you're looking at buying something that is about to depreciate massively over the first few months of using it. And further still after that.

Raptors are good drives, contrary to popular belief. They're also a good purchase if you're happy to stay within the confines of the capacity as well. After that they can become very suspect as you don't want to pay all that money and run out of space.

I had two 74gb Raptors in RAID0 and I was the first one into any game (Call of Duty, Battlefield 2) and that obviously does have its advantages as a gamer.

My only annoyance with them was the noise - they can be very rattly in a case when they want to be, so if that's important to you, make sure to sound proof it to a decent level and it'll be worth the audio sacrifice.

i have a 19" moniter and a gtx.. all these ppl with the huge screens wont think it was a rip off when the new dx10 games come and i can run the game maxxed out and they cant

Might want to check the headphones and see if the mic is detachable
no idea if an issue for you but might be and thus worth checking.

By the time DX10 games make a real impact and start to roll out (not just Crysis) we'll be using PCI 2.0 (probably be released around that start of next year to go hand in hand with the Penryn/Phenom releases) and your 8800GTS will have trouble playing and of the game that really USE DX10, rather than pretty looking ports. However DX9 perfornce on a 8800GTX IS blistering
