wanna get a new system and gamin rig

already got

250gb sata hdd (same make and model as spec)
antec 900
corsair 520w psu

what u think to this, not sure wether to get this processor or a q6600

will be used for latest gaming, cad, reason etc, dreamweaver, flash, photoshop etc etc, and a fileserver for torrentz.

Cpu and motherboard wise, and ram choice, is the above the right choice ? cheaper the better, theres so many diff motherboards now its confusing!

Might be worth just getting a big 500GB as they aren't that much

Otherwise don't bother with the 80GB one and just use your 250?

i can do, i was kinda hoping to run windoze and linux on .partitions on the small drive and use the big one for storage.

Im a bit confused motherboard wise though!

The mobo is fine although you could save a bit of money and go with a cheaper P35 board but it's up to you, to decide what manufacturer you wanna go with

If you're gonna be dual booting you might wanna consider picking a slightly bigger drive, cause it wouldn't take long to use that space on 2 OS's. How much are you willing to spend on a drive? Would a Velociraptor be out of the question? Or you could go with a cheaper but bigger 500 GB drive

Yeah mobo wise best going with the P45 series with that price.
The Asus P5Q-E would be ideal and a couple of quid more i think.
And personally i would change the paste to MX-2
Also 80GB is fine for the two OS. But do you plan to install a lot of programs on the same drive as a OS because i would go through 80GB with just programs/OS.

I have a 160gb IDE drive suitable for programs.

I have another £80 or so i could use, my budget is 1k so got some leeway.

id go with the asus p5q pro for p45 godness

id also change the 4870x2 to a gtx28 tho

also i had one of them samsung dvdrw's and there crap noisey as

So long as you don't want a floppy or any other ide devices you'll be fine. Most mobos including the gigabyte lineup only have one ide slot nowadays. Sata pwns all

Not a big fan of nvidia, went from a x1960 xt to a 8800 gtx when they came out, played bf2 and there were loads of black blotches all over the terrain (nvidia error) then back to an x1950 pro which was ok, quieter etc.

Plus i notice image quality and movies are much better on ati offerings....
