Bluntly put - no!

Looks like if you want to get in the middle you need to purchase the VIP package - well in advanced (especially if you want a very early viewing).

General admission lets you walk close by the stones, but looks to be later in the morning.
 
I recall on a school trip in the 1970s we had lunch sitting on some of the stones. Sorry I know that doesn't help the OP but it's a shame things have changed.

I'm assuming there is a charge now too. Back then it was free and open. You just walked up to it and everyone treated the stones with respect.
