Arrived today from Hong Kong - what more can I say but awful build quality! I opened up one of them and the thing broke apart!

If you look inside the filter there's this tiny little flimsy ring of metal which holds in the glass to stop it from falling out, and when I opened the packet it just went booiinngg and flew out with the glass - not impressed.

I opened up the other one and thankfully it didn't fall apart but it sure looks dodgy. Anyone else had a similar experience?

I eventually put it back together and I can't really see that rotating it around makes a lot of difference through the viewfinder.

Any tips on how to use it would be appreciated.

Just out of interest, what type of Hoya filter is it? They have three ranges

Normal
HMC
Super HMC Pro

I have a 67mm Super HMC Pro Circ Polariser and the build and optical quality is excellent. (Should be for £80!)

Point the camera at a window reflecting sunlight (warning , not at the neighbours wife ;)) and fiddle with the filter to see the difference.

When I use mine I normally point it at the sky first and adjust it to give the deepest blue before I use it.

Another point to note when shooting skies/landscapes is that polarising filters have the most effect when the camera is pointed at 90 degrees to the direction of the sun.

When shooting with the sun immediately in front or behind you, there will be little noticeable distance.

I've had a couple of the Super HMC Pro-1's that have going *sproing* when I opened the packaging; it's nothing to worry about really in terms of build quality, it's just been hammered in the post.

Refund-me-do.
