I just bought, tonight, the HP 2309V 23" 1920x1080. Did I make a good choice? I bought very impulsively from a high street shop, because I love the way the frame looks on HP monitors, very 'mac'.
Are HP respected as a monitor manufacturer? Did I make a mistake because it only has VGA connector and I will need to use my DVI converter, so will I lose any noticeable quality or sharpness? I haven't opened the box yet in case someone tells me HP are no good, but it certainly looked good in the shop. I was also looking at a 23" full HD packard bell, what do you think of them? The picture on that also looked very good, with DVI and VGA, same money, but I didn't like the way the frame looked as much as the HP. I could still swap though. Opinions?

Hi
HP are excellent, but if it only has a VGA connector Id be concerned about that, VGA isnt designed to handle anything above 1024x758 or 1280x1024 cant remember which, I run the HP LP2475W which is one of best monitors available atm (commercially)

Thanks mate, glad to hear you think highly of HP, that puts my mind at rest about their quality.

Well, in the shop, they had windows 7 running and I checked the resolution which was set to native 1920 x 1080, so does that confirm it can actually handle above 1280? If so, am I losing anything in sharpness with vga to dvi converter? Can I still play blu rays and get the full HD experience? I don't get why they would make a 1080 full HD monitor with only a VGA connector, if VGA can't handle the max res?

It will handle the res but blue rays maynot work without HDCP :(

Ah, right, this is a new thing to me, HDCP. Do most monitors have HDCP then, should I be looking to swap for one? I don't have a bluray drive, but who knows, I might get one at some point.

Ok, well, aside from bluray, does the DVI converter/adaptor from my graphics card to the VGA cable on the monitor degrade sharpness, even if it can handle the highest res? What I mean is, does highest resolution guarantee same sharpness, or does converting from dvi to vga analogue degrade the pixels I see in any way? From what I've read, some people say no noticeable difference, but wanna know if you have any comment on that. Thanks.

Ah, according to a friend it should be fine, so like in Deal or no Deal, I'm gonna open the box. :D

EDIT: nope, still haven't opened the box. Sod it, I went and got a refund and bought the LG W2361V which I get tomorrow.
