HP 6000 series

Just got this e-mail from a friend

"just got a laptop HP 6000 series. Is the fan supose to run all the time? This one only runs sometimes, eg. When u switch it on or off.
It also keeps switching off by itself when its being used,not sure why."

Anyone had similar problems.

thats the way a lot of laptops run. If you load the processor then the fan will go to max speed. I think it generally when the cpu hits 60C. Its nothing to worry about. There might be an option somewhere on the laptop to make the fan run 100% all the time.

My Dell 630m does the same, the fan only comes on when needed, what power saving features has he got enabled.

Its the second part im more concerned about. Turning off while its being used. Any ideas

check your power options, it might be set to turn the hard drives off after 20mins of no use etc.

Problem solved. It was the battery that was faulty.
