HP 7300 trying to install XP pro over Vista

Hello everyone,

I currently have a HP Compaq nx7300 laptop with VISTA business installed.

I want to install XP pro onto the machine instead but keep getting the same problem. During installation I get the blue screen of death telling me to deactivate the driver named pci.sys. It seems other people have had the same problem even when carrying out clean installs onto a new hard-drive so I don't think it's anything to do with VISTA.

What I've done/tried so far:

Made an XP pro disk with SP2 slipstreamed onto it and also have the SATA drivers installed onto a floppy which I access during installation using a USB floppy drive.

I'm really stuck and pulling my hair out as nothing has worked!

Please help,

James

Hey,

So the slipstreamed XP pro disk with SP2 didn't work? there is a whole thread on it there, (which I presume you've read as you tried the intigrated SP2 methord but wanted to point it out anyway).

the general idea seems to be that the PCI-E isn't supported by just windows xp, it needs the service packs.
