Hi guys

Does anyone here have any experience with the above?

What I was wondering was is it possible for blades to communicate with each other aside from using the LAN? I.e using the blade cabinet backplane?

If so how? Internal IP? (think similar to internal virtual LAN in VMware or Xenserver that does not leave the hypervisor host but allows VMs to communicate).

I'm looking at a purchase but want to know if I can allow blades to communicate at high speed over the back plane leaving the nics for management etc.

Thanks guys - in mean time I'll check google!

Using Virtual Connect (see interconnects http://h30094.www3.hp.com/link.asp), you can super-easily create an enclosure-only private LAN (you can do this with other modules too, just in a diff way). You can also daisy chain to other chassis and have the same if you want.

EDIT - Sorry, kinda misread what you said. A network "within the chassis" would still use a NIC on the blade.

Not sure if its what FirebarUK was linking you to...but look at Flex-10 Virtual Connect interconnect modules (or FlexFabric if you're feeling adventurous). You can carve up 10Gb nic across 4 virtual nics on a server i.e. 4 x 2.5Gb. Particularly useful if you are using VMware as you can have a dedicated (internal to the chassis) network for Vmotion, etc.

Thanks guys - very useful info

I have to draw out a deployment plan now which includes interconnectivity between the blades and external to the chassis, i.e management etc so thanks again for all your help, those links will come in handy!
