HP - blank screen

Hi

I havea 13 month old HP Pavillion DV2500 Laptop and out of the blue it doesn’t display anything on the screen (stays black).

I have noticed that the hard drive light comes on when its powered up but it goes out shortly afterwards and doesn’t flicker whilst its powering up.

What could be the fault?

Could be the dreaded Nvidia chipset of fail. Try on an external monitor if its the same then i would say this is the fault.

external monitor doesn't work.

Is this something that can be DIY fixed and what sort of costs?
