HP/Compaq Whitelist

Why do all (some?) HP/Compaq laptops have a whitelist for upgrade parts?

Do they all actually have this or is it just older ones?

Does anyone know anyway around this? Mainly i want to upgrade a wireless card and i keep getting a "104 unsupported wireless card...." message on boot up.

Try updating to the latest bios, it is really annoying HP implement this wifi support list.

I think i have the newest one, ill double check. Its an old laptop a Compaq V6000 series so dont know if they still update bios for that?

Its doesnt make sense, the only reason i can see they do it is so people buy upgrades from themselves???
