Hello,

In the process of setting up a HP DL380 G7 server which has 4 network ports.

I have installed Windows 2008 Server Standard then the latest PSP from HP.

In device manager it lists 2 network ports as installed and then the other 2 in other devices with yellow marks next to them.

Whatever i try i cant get them in install

Found a couple of posts on google but with no replies :(

Anyone come across this before ??

Thanks for the help :)

I've worked with servers where 2 ports were on one Nic, the other 2 on a different one. You're missing a driver for the second one from the sounds of it - did you not use the smartstart cd?

Thanks for the reply.

I have used the smart CD, will give it another go tomorrow and see if we get any further. The CD's that came with it dint seem to helpful hence i downloaded the PSP from HP.com

On the front on the server theres 4 NIC led's, 1+2 give no activity but 3+4 seem to work once plugged in.

2 different makes of network card in the same server seems strange ?? is that just me ??

Thanks again for replying.

Did you install the OS by booting off the smartstart cd first, or have you just installed windows then a few drivers?

It's the same dual port NC382i NIC, which is a Broadcom BCM5709.

I'd have expected the PSP to install all the correct drivers. Did you install the HP Network Utility?

We set up the RAID then booted of the server 2008 disk and installed windows.

Followed by the PSP pack, latest version from hp's web site.

Will get a screen grab later :)

Thanks Ben

Booting from the Windows disc is probably why.

Always best to use the SmartStart disc with the HP kit, as it just works and installs the correct base drivers for everything (on everything I've done from G1 to current G7 kit). Apply the latest PSP after the fact.

At least you're not using IBM ;-)

If you used PSP afterwards then that should be fine, I've done this many times. You don't need to install using SmartStart.

Ok next time i will boot of the smart CD before installing windows.

I have put the latest PSP on and still it wont install.

Raised a support ticket with HP, see what they come up with.

Will update when i hear from them.

Thanks Ben

Unless I'm doing something wrong you will find with SmartStart (at least v8.50) if you install 2008 or R2 it will be in en-US region etc by default. Just one thing to watch out for.
