My brother's HP DV6-3130sa laptop has recently died. I wasn't there at the time, but he said the fan started getting louder and the display stopped working. He took it to a repair shop who replaced the fan and housing, but by then the graphics card had already died due to overheating. I was wondering if it is possible to physically disable the dead graphics card (though it is apparently fixed to the motherboard) and just run off the integrated graphics on the CPU? Thanks :)

I think thats a common fault. My son has one and its done the same. New MB £60 ish.

If its the same I believe they over heat and the print lifts off the board.

Then down clock graphics so it runs cooler.

Where did you buy the new motherboard may I ask? My brother was quoted £200 to replace it (which is not worth the cost) but £60 to save it may well be a good option. I was just going to list it on the MM for spare parts and hopefully reclaim a bit of the purchase price.
