HI, turned on my laptop today and:

SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Drive 4 (samsung HM121Ht(S1))
Warning: Replace HDD a Failure may be imminent!
Press F1 to continue (after I Press, nothing happens)

guess I need new HDD!
so, can I use any 2.5" laptop hdd?
cheers

while your upgrading the hdd, you may as well got one thats 7200rpm instead of the standard 5400rpm drive.
its a worth while upgrade

Take into account heat and battery issues too!

Faster drive will drain battery faster and possibly generate more heat, but if you use it on mains power mostly, the speed increase could be benificial.

Hi!
Thank you for advice, but I have contacted HP and they said laptop support maximum of 250GB HDD in single with speed 5400rmp!
or 250+250gb in dual (laptop support 2 hdd's)

I ordered Toshiba 250gb, installed new Vista Ultimate...so far so good!

the new drives actually don't really give of anymore heat and battery life doesnt change much in my HP laptop(newer drives are a lot better on power use)
i have 2 7200rpm drives in my HP laptop and heat isn't a factor at all
