Are these generalyy worth the premuim over a normal laptop?

I was looking at an 8640w or an 8560w, and they are rather expensive.

For the same cash, I would be able to get another laptop with a quad core i7, but the HP build quality on these elitebooks looks the daddy.

(and i like the styling too)

Is there a Samsung equivalent of the Elitebook?

Given the one we bought in at work recently for a member of staff, I'd say no. It was a mess of cheap plastics and general cruddyness.

I believe that one of the factors that drives up the price of Elitebooks is the quality of their screen. I think they are meant to cover the sRGB and Adobe colour spectrums for colour accuracy

We issue them at work, they are awful. Its a miriad of cheap plastics and a small amount of brushed aluminium. I find them heavy and combersome. I'm sorry I can't recommend an alternative but based on my own experience I would never buy a HP Elitebook.

My company has issued me with an Elitebook 8470p. Contrary to the above feedback, I personally find it to be the best company issued laptop I've ever had. Nice screen, good battery life, looks good (brushed aluminium look). It seems "premium" compared to the crap I've had in the past at least.

This may not be a good answer to your question as I cannot compare it to other current alternatives or comment on the price compared to competitors but just wanted to give you my feedback in case it does help.

I had one as a work laptop and hated it (mainly for the reasons above). Lots of people had reliability problems and we now use different machines.
