Hello
I've got a HP Elitedesk 800 G1 Small form factor with a 240gb ssd and 16gb ram.
Looking for advice on available graphics cards to suit.
This was given to me so I'm happy to spend some cash on whatever is recommended by you experts :)

There could be a number of issues.

1) what motherboard is inside and what expansion slots does it have.

2) what GFX cards will fit inside the small case

3) can the PSU cope and does it have any necessary connectors for said GFX card

4) if all above is ok does the motherboard even work/recognise a modern card/ can you get a BIOS update for it?

5) might be easier to take the cpu, ram, ssd and stick in all in a new motherboard that does work and a new case+psu that will take a normal size gfx card.

Can you download cpu-z and post images of all the tabs? would help identify the cpu/ram you have.

I have exactly the same machine - currently with a low profile 730 in there.

I'm just waiting for a low profile msi 1050 ti to arrive. Will let you know if there's any issues.

Thanks.
I'm not looking to do anything other than put a graphics card in. The gtx 750ti low profile card will fit anyway, I just wondered if anyone had any other ideas that don't involve me making virtually a new pc.

the msi 1050ti is your only new option, its the only card on ocuk which is low profile and ships with the brackets. doesnt need any additional power from the PSU, wait and see if Bug One has any issues

The card arrived today. Fits perfectly, fired up with no issues. I did have to go into BIOS as the clock appears to have reset itself, but didn't cause any issues.

I just fired up Arkham Knight which I could barely even get to run a 800x600 with all options turned off. It now runs perfectly at 1900x1200 with all options turned on. Well worth it.

Tidy solution - admire compact builds.

What are the temps like in such a small form factor - CPU and GPU at load?

No hurry - guessing you're still playing with settings :)

Not got time to play games, so only gave it a quick run to check it worked, but it all appears to run fine. The fans did speed up, but not to 100%, so temps appear to be fine. The cards is only pulling 30w more than the previous one, so I don't expect a massive difference in heat output.

1050 Ti gets my vote as well, if you can wait another month or so and save more money for it. Pretty big gap in performance between the 1050 Ti and the 750 or 1030.

I have come across a MSI GeForce GTX 750 Ti Low Profile 2GB GDDR5, which is more than I wanted to pay but when I compared it to my existing one its over 700% better. I see you mention a 1050 but I dont have that kind of money from my understanding (limited to youtube) am I right in saying this is the older model and although not as good still much better than my nvidia 310 when I run a comparision its 700% better, I realise the 1050 is better still but wow guys its a lot of money to justify spending isnt it?
This 7050 is £80 second hand, is it worth it?

Not at all. 750s were selling new for that money (£80-90) when they were stocked by retailers, 750Tis for £90-110.

So £40-45 second-hand max for a 750.

Save up more for a 1050Ti 4GB. Or get a GT 1030 if you game at 720p instead of 1080p.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £213.87
(includes shipping: £9.90)
