Thanks - what is the best way (programme) to test temp...tks again.
HW Monitor is free and should give you the CPU temperatures, as well as fan speeds.
CPU-Z will show you the CPU clock, so you can see it throttling. hmmm... temps and fans as well? I can't remember for sure.
You can run Prime95 to stress the cores, and MSI Kombustor / Unigine to stress the GPU. However Prime95 will make use of hyperthreading, while BF3, IIRC, wont. However, one way to reduce heat is disabling hyperthreading.
I also know that the Envy has had throttling problems in the past. I was seriously considering a Envy 14 not so long ago.
