I was in purple shirt land looking a these laptops then got home and read that the i5 version is out soon which has better battery life and a newer GPU.

Anyone know the release date as I cannot find any UK information anywhere!

The i5 version is already out in the USA. I have not been able to get a date of HP for a UK release.

By all accounts the i5 version gets about 2 hours battery life and the 5830 is very similar to the 4830 (800 shaders instead of 720 but same speeds)

uncomfortable touchpads, massive heat issues on the palmrests, the port-block sticking out of the smooth chassis, lousy keyboard layout, the limited screen tilt angle and the enormous price

No optical drive either.

i owned the envy for a while, and i can tell you its a good laptop ok lol.

i'm having fun it, just installed ramdisk as i had spare memory, it can read 4gigs per second. i stored firefox browser and some games in ramdisk, way cool.

well, my laptop doesn't have an optical drive either, not that i've missed having one. i have a USB one and i've only used it five or six times for forensics stuff.
While I do agree with you (i.e. it's not that important), it's still a 15.6" laptop without an optical drive - no optical drive is something you usually hear on netbook specs. Also, you'd expect that the extra space available would go to keeping temperatures down, but it seems it hasn't.
