Doing some reading some people say they don't work, others say they do,

Has anyone tried installing NON ECC cpus? did it work

Looking at the Intel Core i5-3470T (non ECC)

Have you tried looking air the CPU support list? It includes the 3470T along with several other non ECC CPU's like the i3's.

The dual core i5 and i3 'T' CPUs work with ECC RAM and some of the earliest Gen8s were supplied with the i3-3220T. For some reason Intel changed the description of these CPUs to remove ECC compatibility but that doesn't change the physical chips. The i3-3220T, i3-3240T & i5-3470T all work with ECC RAM but the i5-3570T doesn't (it's 4-core). I know 'cos I've tried all of them in a Gen8.
If you want a 3470T put something in the Wanted section of the MM.
