HP IT Essentials I, worth it?

I'm currently doing a Cisco CCNA course. Recently the instructors have announced next academic year they will be also providing HP IT Essentials I if anyone wants to do it. Is it worth taking it up?

The goal of the HP IT Essentials I is to lay a foundation required to assemble a computer and troubleshoot problems that occur

I've already built my own computer. I'm typing away with the same computer I built :p Troubleshoot? I believe I know more than the average 16 year old should know enough to troubleshoot a PC

You learn how to properly install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair PC hardware and software.

Again, all done in the first build and over the 4 - 5 years of my interests of computing.

The topics covered help prepare you to pass the CompTIA A+ certification exam to become a certified computer service technician and persue a future career in IT technology or simply be equipped with the knowledge of how a computer works.

Is that worth it? I mean I already know half of the stuff, i've read through the syllabus. Shall I just go ahead with it and get the qualification? Or is it simply not worth the hassle. I reckon I can just do two modules a week. And the bits I don't know just spend a little time on it.
What do you reckon? I mean is it even a respected qualification? Its only a year course. As I stated above I am doing my Cisco CCNA, will IT Essentials help?

Does it need renewing every so often years like the CCNA qualification? Or does the CCNA cancel it out?
By this I mean for example, like if I were to get my CCNA, then do a higher qualification and get a CCNP then it would mean I don't need to renew my CCNA :)

Being able to do it is one thing, convincing possible employers is another and with a slip of paper or a stamp on your hand that says you can do it things become easier.

I just completed ITE 2 :)

It's so easy you might as well do it. But for me I don't think it will help me get a job as such because I am going into programming and Unis don't seem to care much for CCNA and IT.

I just dropped CCNA 2. I can't stand it anymore. Just jumped staight into Routers. I say I dropped it... it's more like I told the teacher what I think of the course and he then told me to go home.

why we're you doing a CCNA course (about networking) if your into programming?

I had to take a course that would get me into uni. So I did AVCE ICT. They bundled in CCNA and ITE with it.

I did the same thing. In my case it was sort of a backup plan in case everything went **** up. In hindsight maybe I would have been better off doing another A-level but I managed to get a good place in uni. Also I don't know what other A-level I would do. If I did something else and got a bad grade in it, it would have probably looked worse than only having 2.5 decent A-levels. Saying that I actually have a second AS in ICT but I only got a C in that compared to straight A's in everything else.

Hi there. Do you have to reniew your ITE 1 & 2 certificated after 3 or 4 years?

I'm not sure as I did ITE 1 last year and ITE 2 a couple of months ago. I know for CCNA you can. But that's the thing. I don't think you have to renew it. I could be wrong. There is a member on the forums called S7YL3S (something like that). Hes currently finishing CCNA 3 and he know his stuff when it comes to these courses. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you ask him. :)
