HP Laptop Issue

Posting on behalf of a friend:

I shutdown my laptop and it started installing updates, it was stuck on update 18 of 25 for over an hour so I held the power button.

Now when I turn my laptop on it is just a black screen with the keyboard illuminated and fans whirring. Sometimes the keyboard doesn't light up and the caps lock button flashes instead (2 flashes then a long pause then 2 flashes and repeats).

I hope you can help as we're not sure what this could be.

Have you managed to sort this yet. This is pretty common with certain HP models. Have you tried taking out the battery and disconnecting the power, hold the power button down for 15 to 30 seconds or so, plug the power back in without the battery and then press the power button.

We had a similar problem with a HP G62 but the Caps Lock LED didnt flash. The only way to get it on was to overheat it by covering it the fan so the connections would expand.
