HP laptop not powered on

When I pressed the power button, power led only came on for a second and then nothing happened. No screen or fans spanning.

Power adaptor is ok, tested it with multimeter. What could it be? Motherboard? It is 5 years old laptop.

These symptons would suggest the motherboard, you can try the battery out no adapter in hold the button 10 seconds then try again thing.

Thanks, just already done it as instructed by HP support. Looks like a motherboard issue.

The laptop costs £1500 5 years ago - Pentium 4 3Ghz, would it be better to replace it with newer laptop rather than motherboard?

Ok, just got quoted of £267 which includes everything - parts, labour and delivery. Worthwhile?

i would buy new, even a basic £300 c2d will be much faster than your old P4, take the HD and stick it on ebay and put that towards the cost of a new one you'd be suprised how much they can make.
