HP Laptop Problem

Hi, I'm at work trying to fix a laptop for someone and have run out of ideas

It is an HP Pavilion zd8000

Basically it works fine with windows default display drivers, but whenever we try to install the ati drivers it does not work, it gets to windows logo then when it should load windows, it just goes black.

You then have to boot into safe mode to remove them

I have tried...

Running on battery and mains
6.8 drivers
6.4
6.1
5.9
omega latest drivers
hp ati drivers

It is not overclocked (coz it sux and has no overclocking option)

I'm wondering if the screen needs drivers or something, it is a widescreen monitor and if you use windows default drivers and change res to say 1440x900 it does the same black screen thing

I can't find any screen drivers for it though

any assistance or anyone else who has had this problem, would be appreciated

sounds strangely like a resolution problem, but if youve fresh installed them they should be set to basic (800x600) so not sure.

Sounds more like a screen refresh rate than a resolution problem.

After installing the drivers and rebooting, turn the laptop off. Then restart it and press F8 to enter Safe mode. Set the refresh rate to 60Hz (set it even if it's already set, if that makes sense). Restart and see if it now works.

sounds like a good idea, i'll give it a go

the res is set at 640x480 when windows installs default stuff but if you change it it doesnt like it
i'll give the refresh rate a go tomorrow, thx
