Hello chaps, quick query about the gf's laptop (HP dv6000 series). Basically, it'll power on and spin up, but it won't reach the BIOS screen. It loops around trying to reach the BIOS screen for ages until it decides to boot into Vista (or until I chuck it out of the window!). Any ideas? Ta in advance.

so your saying it takes long to bootup like it hangs on bootup before it goes to vista? sounds like its trying to boot from cd perhaps then harddrive?

After my Toshiba Satellite A200 (Win Vista Business) did a Windows Update, it didn't want to start any more. Did your issue start occurring after a Windows Update?

I would think about restoring the laptop from the recovery disk if you have one, then switching Windows Update off.

It's not something like it's trying to count it's ram like 10 times or something ? We had this a few weeks ago at work on a customers laptop, it got sent back to our repair people as faulty and they could n;t find a fault with it.

They brought it back saying it was still no better, so I had a quick look and the "Quick POST TEST" option was disabled. I know that one was an Acer, so your HP may be different.
