Hi
Got a laptop a m8 wants me to fix. it was restating every 5 secs so i took the thing to pieces and removed the screen. I ran it off my monitor and it started up fine.
Now as soon as i plug the laptop screen in it does the same thing! just keeps restarting! The screen displays nothing at all except u can see it flash on and off but it doesn't light up!
ive tried it whit another screen and it does exactly the same, i can only guess the cable is knackered or some sort of on board controller on the mobo!

any 1 got any ideas?

cheers

If you swapped the lcd panel itself it can only be the cable or the mobo, have seen this problem before but its very rare. Have you tried safe mode just to make sure its not driver related.

cant even get it to post to bios if the screen is connected m8! as soon as i remove the screen and plug in my moniter it works 100% fine!

As said above if you've swapped the lcd panel, it can only be either the mainboard or the cable, bear in mind there's upto 15 tiny cables in the actual flat cable, it's very possible one of these has broken, you could try undoing the cable, they're usually in a metal ribbon type covering and see if any are broken.

edit , dont bin it stick it on ebay

not mine to put on ebay! the amount of laptops i get to repair i would love to scrap them on the bay but people still want them back!
Well ive just orderd a used lead on ebay for £7 free p&p. See if that works, if not they can have it back dead!

Are you sure of that?
Sounds much more like to me that its using the internal screen only by default if it's connected, no matter whether an external is connected or not. One of the Fn keys should cycle through the displays, try that first.
