Hi all.

Looking to replace a 1TB WD MyBook Live NAS with a Microserver fitted with a 3TB red/blue.

Just looking for a few pointers on best way to proceed, and pointing in the right direction if there is a better way of doing this?

My plan is to install Win7/8 and have it running Plex server, and have Dropbox installed to sync important photos/docs in the cloud.

Questions:

• Is there a better OS to install to achieve this?

• I read that it's worth installing the OS on a separate disk (in some cases USB?)

Is there anything else I should be considering?

Thanks in advance! :)

It would be nice to have a separate disk for your OS install just to help keep your data a smidgin safer. Windows (either version) will be just fine and do exactly what you want. If you fancy squeezing a bit more out of you Microserver then have a look at a Linux distro such as Mint which will be a bit lighter on the resources than Windows.

Thanks for the reply.

I've ordered the hardware, and I'll take your advice and throw Win7 on a spare HDD.

I've used Mint before in a VM, so may give that a whirl while I wait for the kit to arrive :)
