HP Microserver+XPEnology

So up and running with gnoboots 5.0 release, updated to update 2 for security. 4 3TB WD reds installed in the main 4 bays, with 2 3TB WD greens connected using a jmicron jmb363 based controller. Currently the greens are not showing up, and I suspect this is due to the sata card.

Anyone got a work around or have any ideas? I dont mind spending abit of money on a working raid card if it works, but the same raid card works in the other MS that is running ESXi :(
 
Not on this list, so I have requested an addition to the next version. Cant find any linux drivers though for it, which is odd :(

edit: Came home today to a failing WD Red, or at least according to synology :(

It's showing as a smart error so swapping it over tomorrow with a new one.

On my ESXi box using the command listed in that blog i get:

And I know drives are visible on the ESXi box (Microserver 1), however under gnoboots DSM (On Microserver 2) release I get

so the jmb363 is 03:00.0 Class 0106: Device 197b:2362 (rev 10) (prog-if 01) but the DSM cant find a driver to use it :(

hoping that gno manages to get a work around, if not, anyone got any suggestions on a replacement card, needs to be low height, 2 ports
 
So got round this by installing one hard drive on the internal sata port, and I have an esata to sata cable on the way for drive number 6. would be nice to have it all running off a pci-e card, but i can now get a usb 3 card instead for that slot :D

XPenology/Server2K12r2 mapped drives issue

Hi Guys,

Not sure if I should have posted this in main server thread, however, here is my problem.

Recently setup my microserver n36l with xpenology on it. Joined it to my ny network and want to map out the shares via group policy in server 2012 r2 running as 2008 r2 active directory. Problem is, that the mapped drives work first time after joining to the domain, then fail every time you reboot.
I tried joining the xpenology to the domain, but failed for various errors which I don't know how to resolve.
I mapped each drive in GPO with optional credentials with the user with read/write permissions on the xpenology.
I tried both UNC and IP addressing the drives.
Scripting the drives in a batch file also has the same result.
Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone help?
 
Nothing as yet from gnoBoot :( I did try nanoboot but tings didn't go well, so I'm back on gnoBoot.

I now have nanoboot installed, with DSM 5.0-4493 Update 1 on my N54L.

The problem is that the HD's wont go te sleep. I stopt all the packages, but no luck.

Does anyone have a idea?
 
You could try turning "check for updates off" or setting the sleep time 20mins then restart and set it back to 10mins.

And don't for get to change the "ADMIN" log on to something else.
 
Has anyone got any idea's about what could be going on with my system and how to fix it?

I have been away on holiday and shutdown my HP N54L running 4.3 and when coming back I have powered the system back on but can't seem to get any network connectivity from it.

The NIC of the back of the box looks fine it is flashing green/orange etc but it doesn't seem to come online. I have connected directly on the box and am able to get into the system and if I run ifconfig I only get showned the lo interface and a 127.0.0.1 address.

I run etc/rc.network restart I get the following messages

ifconfig: SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
Unloading module llc ... [FAILED]

I have also tried running ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.99 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 up but get the same message "ifconfig: SIOCSIFADDR: No such device"

Any idea's what could be going on? I had manually configured a static IP on the box which had been working fine for months.
 
I have been playing around with it for a little bit and found the config for eth0 under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 which is configured as below

DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=yes
IPADDR=192.168.1.42
NETMASK=255.255.255.0

Guessing I may have broken something as when I run ifconfig I get the following message now

ifconfig: eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

Looking under /etc/sysconfig/networking I only have the file ifcfg-lo and not sure if I should have a file there for eth0 or not?

Anyone with a better understanding of this would be much appreciate, I just want to get my files off so I can rebuild the thing now.
 
This must be simple, but it's foxed me!

I had it all running fine and dandy under dsm5.82 or whatever the latest was before it all went south.

Now my problem - decided to trust them with my valuable data and shut down and installed some different drives. It now wants me to reinstall as it thinks it has lost the configuration.

Surely everything should have been on the usb stick?

I use a mac and had to boot into windows to do most stuff on the microserver, but had to reinstall due to a virus. Now I would appreciate any idea if I can get back or am I stuffed and have to start from scratch - and can't face trying to track everything down from all over.

I'd welcome your thoughts please.

The thing is, it wants me to link to a .pat file. I started with dsm 5 and have updated a couple of times. However, I think you were supposed to download the pat file from the synology website, but they only seem to have the troublesome latest one on there, so I'm struggling.
What I'd really like is the pat file for the 82 update (sorry if this is vague, it's from memory).
Or am I being dumb. I've nothing on the disks, so nothing to lose, but don't want to do more damage than I have too. I doubt I'm going to get my settings back, but it would be nice!

All sorted, I found one. Shame I lost my config on one unit, but not the other. Guess there is some setup left on the hard drives. Hopefully I won't have to change the disks again - at least for a while!

Just a quick PC question if someone would be kind enough to advise...

My usb thumb drive is disintegrating!

I've got a replacement, but is it possible on a pc to clone it - just so I don't lose all the setting up info.

I only know mac's, so hope someone can help.
