Does anyone know if HP ever made any CPU upgrade kits for these machines?

Or is it possible just to go out and by any X3000 series of retail Xeon and fit it?

I quite fancy replacing the X3430 Xeon CPU with another one that has HT. Only thing is I dont know if HP got Intel to write some microcode in the CPU somewhere so that you HAVE to put an "HP" Branded CPU in there.

Anyone know?

Cheers.

Ive seen a 578346-L21 HP X3440 ML110 G6 FIO Kit.

But, FIO means Factory Integrated Option. Does that mean its one of these configure to order parts, and you can only specify the part when you are building a new server. So its not available to actually buy physically?

The price is ludicrous £267, compared to £143 for the retail part. Jeeees. :(

Probably be more cost effective to sell it and buy the whole unit with the Xeon! They're doing that cashback offer so a Xeon model can be had for £189.

Thats the point.

The standard quad core X3430 does not support HT, its only the model up that does, which HP charge hundreds of pounds more for.

:)

Older HW I know, but I've swapped between different processors on my ML110 G5 without issues. I'm sure HP would love to be able to tie you into only using only official HP parts but thats not the case. Warranty aside, the main difference between OEM and 'Official' parts is a HP p/n on the box and a hefty $$$ increase.
