I have a HP 4250n Laser Printer and four PCs.

How do i get it set up through a switch so its available to all PCs?

I have the Printer IP set at 192.168.249.60 and all the PCs are in that range 192.168.027 etc etc

I can ping the printer just cant work out how to install it, do i need to install it locally to one of the PCs first?

Thanks in advance for your help

No need to locally install it, unless the machine is a server that is a print server.

On a PC, go to Printers and Faxes > Add a Printer

Choose 'A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer'. And follow the prompts through.

My HP network printer needs the software installed. It's quite annoying.

I think thats what must be needed here as the Add Printer option gives me nothing :(

Any clues?

Head to HP and download the software/driver for the printer. It's fairly straight forward from there onwards thankfully! :)

Run the add printer wizard, choose a local port then create an IP port with the address above. Point it at the driver.

Job done.

Go to the HP site and download /run "HP install network printer wizard" on each PC = worked for my 4050n. Which didn't work with just "add printer" etc.
