Hi everyone. Currently my partners HP laptop is randomly freezing. By freezing I mean full lock-up in which the cursor stops moving and the only option to reboot is to hold the power button down for 5 seconds or so. There does not appear to be any apparent reason or displayed error when the computer freezes.

For instance, last night, after she had been using the computer all day, I popped onto overclockers.co.uk and it completely froze up.

The specs are:

Intel Pentium M processor 740* (1.73-GHz, 533-MHz FSB, 2-MB L2 cache)
Mobile Intel 915PM Express Chipset
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600
1024-MB 533-MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Windows XP Professional SP2

Now, she has had this problem before due to dust and hair preventing her exhaust fan from working. I don’t think this is an issue here and both of the vents appear to be clean and each fan is functioning.

I was wondering if any of you might be able to suggest methods in which I could track down the problem. I started last night by installing motherboard monitor 5; however, I could not find the above chipset within the motherboard selection. I think heat is the key to solving this problem, but I am open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance 

Paul
