Sure - I need to buy new really, it's a for a birthday.
The Eluktronics RP 17 is the model I meant. It's not magnesium alloy, I think it's plastic / resin. With UK shipping it's about £1450 for the 17'' butnisnt expected until end of July it seems.
So ended up getting the Omen 17 and first impressions are very good. It runs really well and is a lot cooler and quieter than the ASUS A17. I already had occasion to test the HP support as on day 2, the laptop decided to 'unsee' the graphics card. It looks like one of the updates resulted in an issue with the PCI driver...but got straight through to HP support on live chat, shared screen and sorted the issue in 5 mins. Quite impressive.
Anyway - pretty happy so far. Nice machine.
very good, its with the 2070? what CPU have you got?
Yeah, the 2070 - it's the i9750H which is not as modern as I would have liked but seems to do the job very well and is running cool (for a laptop)
Can you upgrade the CPU?
@Firegod, if he can go from it and wants to buy now, and wants to keep this machine for a few years, I'd suggest he does consider looking at the 2070 (or the super model as it is now). Despite being Max-P, the laptop versions of the chips are closer to the previous tier desktop card, my overclocked 2080 Max-P is performing about on par with a desktop 2070 Super, so fairly close to the desktop 2080 but not quite there, and part of that closeness is the little extra bump from my OC.
A 2070 Max P will be about 2060-2070 level, a 2070 Super laptop Max P will be about 2070 desktop level etc etc.
Of course if he doesn't need the power and its £200 plus for the upgrade and there are no OTHER upgrades included (RAM, PSU, SSD, Screen etc), then he may be better saving that cash for his next upgrade.
The MaxQ versions are considerably worse, so looking at these machines with Max P is a good shout!
