HP Omen Laptops

Cheers for your thoughts Phemo. For me 3 hours is OK for the battery, I'm sure Chrome would have added to that drain though, It is still my main browser but it is really heavy nowadays.

I received it yesterday, After a bit of de-cluttering(Compared to old HP machines there isn't a great deal of bloat, The main one being mcafee) & updating windows & such things I am all set up. The build quality is much better than I expected. It isn't too heavy certainly not as weighty as my old Alienware R14. I haven't noticed any light bleed as of yet from the screen which was one of my concerns.

It does get rather hot though! Even after the bios update doing a little bit of gaming saw it in the 80c+ range, Certainly not enough to put me off though.

For the price I couldn't see anything close to this laptop in terms of specs & I've been looking for a while now. Even in the adverts they don't mention the 144hz screen & gsync, so that was a lovely bonus too.

So from my initial impressions I am very surprised but satisfied I think.

Is this the Omen 15-dc0022na? How has it been treating you?

Seriously considering picking one of these up, although the temp side of things sounds bad but i'd imagine all gaming laptops have heat issues or throttling to a degree (no pun intended!)

From the scant amount of info around for the 2018 refreshed omens, GPU temp appears to be decent (circa 80c) but its the cpu thats struggling. How has you're cpu temps been since the bios update?

I don't know if you're aware but you can also limit the power of the cpu in the bios which apparently makes quite a big difference.

Sorry for all the questions but it's hard finding info, epecaially the 1070 version. Cheers mate :)

Yep that is the one I got, I have been enjoying it to be fair still very surprised considering I wasn't expecting too much from HP, But I haven't had any issues so far.

It does get very hot though, temps for both gpu/cpu can be around 80 - 90c during long sessions also depending on the ambient temp. As you know it has been a little warm in the UK lately! Although I haven't noticed it throttling.

At the time of writing this with the laptop outputting to the TV as well as the laptop screen. 8 tabs in chrome & steam open it is sitting at 45c cpu @ 4ghz & 40c GPU, Which I don't think is that bad really especially considering the thickness of the laptop itself.

I did poke around in the BIOS but I couldn't see any options for changing the CPU. Maybe I am being blind there or you need to enable some setting I have no idea :)

It is very hard to find info on this laptop almost all the reviews I have seen are for the 1060 model.

I have to say it reminds me of my old Alienware M14x R2 with the shape & weight of it.

When I had mine, I had to update the BIOS before I got the option to cap the CPU power. I set it to 35w and noticed no difference in performance at all for what I was doing.

Do you know what part of the BIOS that setting was under?

I'm on F.05A which is apparently the newest BIOS but I don't see any of these options hmmm

[edit:- I found it :D ]
