Hi,

I have managed to acquire a HP P812 raid controller and am trying to access it remotely for management. It is not connected to a HP machine and I am not accessing it from a HP machine. I can access the BIOS for the card on boot and create an array. I have installed the ACU on to my machine and set it to connect remotely and now everytime I run it, it opens a webpage to localhost with a specific port and path. If I point it to my servers address it timesout. The server is running VMwares vSphere 5.1.

I also need to flash the firmware as it is from 2010. I tried putting the flash files on a bootable usbstick but at 6MB the exe is too big for memory. I have found the off-line ACU ISO image and the HP bootable USB utility and am going to try that next.

The controller also came without a rear PCI bracket. Anyone know the part number or where I may be able to get one as the controller is heavy and I have a concern the weight will pull it out of the slot and possibly fry it (have had this with a IBM M1015 before).

Any other suggestions.

Thanks
RB

Off line ACU and HP Bootable USB is definitely your best bet. As it's ESXi you can't install any agents so this really is your only option.

As for the firmware, download the latest SPP ISO (used to be the HP Firmware DVD) and either burn it or use the HP USB util again.
I've never tested it on a non HP server, but it worked on my RAID card for my microserver, so I think you're in with a shout.

Getting a rear bracket might be hard, there are various places that will create a custom one for you - but I've no idea how much they charge.

The boot USB with the ACU works a treat, thanks.

I shall give a go with the flash as soo as I get some time.

Unfortuately the flash did not go so well.

The SPP loaded and automatically then updated. On reboot the controller initilises and just after reporting the number of logical drives the server reboots.

I do not seem to be able to get past this :-(.
