Behind you... Naked!
I have just been given a HP Pavilion DV4000

There is an issue that I just cannot quite pin-point ?

Basically what it does is simply hang all the time... And I mean 99% of the time its hanging.

If you press down on it, either next to the touch pad, or the keyboard or well, pretty much anythere on it to be honest, it carries on as if nothing has happened?

Its really confusing?

It does it from the moment you poer it on, right until you turn it off.

The thing is that while you are squeezing it, it works perfectly. You let go and it hangs?

I started to strip it all down today and there is nothing thats obviously wrong with it? Nothing?

I mean, if the thing crashed it would be something but like I said, give it a squeeze and it carries on just fine.

Any clues?

Just to let you know how weird the hanging is, I entered the password earlier on and only 3 stars showed up even though I entered the password and pressed enter... I thought sod it and I closed the lid and put it on the unit.
It was about 3 and a half hours later that I opened the lid and it was still showing the 3 dots, I squeezed the case and the pasword filled up and it went in - So, it hangs for that long ?

My thoughts are that if there was somethign that could do this, then waht can it be? all connections seem to be fine, but what possible connections can make it hang like this? What the hell else can do it?

By any chance, is that the location of the hard drive? Same thing happened to me with a Sony Vaio, the hard drive was on the way out.

Dry joint
Yes, thats the most likely. Google has provided a number of people who have the same issue with the same laptop and among the issues, dry joints has come up more than once.

Bad HD
Again, this is plauseable, however it has done the same thing with a stripped down laptop on a Live Linux CD too... No HD attached, so its not the HD.

This poor thing is missing a couple of keys, its got got more cracks than a builders yard and last night, when playing about with it, it killed 2 of my USB Drives so the USB ports are dangerous to use, but its clinging on... I might just give it to my youngest son to play about with... After all it was given to me.
