Im planning to reinstall windows 7 on it, theres a recovery drive consisting of windows vista factory settings and main drive. so if i removed recovery to free up space leaving it with just 1 drive. Would it function ok? im not entirely sure if by doing so would it mess up the system.

It would work fine but you wouldnt be able to reset it to factory settings, but you can if you make a set of recovery cds from the recovery manager in windows.
