Hi everyone, I am having a spot of bother since upgrading to Lion.
M HP C4580 printer will not seem to connect wirelessly to my iMac anymore, if I use a USB cable everything is fine, but this is not ideal as my printer is away from my mac.
Can someone, anyone help????;)

Hi

Chech your router to see if the printer is attached to it still, if so it will give you and ip address, change the settings on the installed USB printer driver to point to that ip address via ldap or tcp and it should work. On my HP wifi printer, I ran the config disc in the machine to set a fixed ip address on it once, and when I upgraded to lion, I just powered the printer on and lion picked it up and installed with one click. Holla back if you need further help and I do some screen shots.

first check the ip address of your printer on your router.

mine here is 192.168.1.95

in print and scan in system preferences click on the +

since its an HP choice HP Jetdirect (correction from my earlier post)
enter the ip address of the printer.
Queue is blank
Name - you can type in there want you like
Location - type what ever you like
Print using - should automatically change to your printer.

Then press add.

if you can reserve your printer ip address on your router do so, or even give it a fixed address.

if you click on the wifi symbol in the top right corner, open network preferences then highlight what connection your using and advance then TCP/IP.

on that page it will give you your router address, place that in to the address bar of your browser, then it will ask for your username and password for your router.

The default password is
Username = admin
Password = password
For older devices, password = 1234

Unless you have changed it or the ISP provider has changed it.

Have you tried using the disc that came with the printer? they may be a program on it that will set it up for you.

many thanks for tour help slinxy, I am ok getting into my router settings but I can't find out the IP address of the printer and without that I'm struggling! Any more help would be great!

I have just printed the wireless network test report from my printer and it came back as saying "your printer cannot find your access point,check that your HP printer network name (SSID) matches your access point network name exactly." and the report says that my printer network name is not found with a big FAIL at the side!
I sound like a right numpty but so far everything has just worked with my mac! So how would one go about this?

you need to plug your printer back into the computer, and run the setup program either from cd or from the printer setup page (should be in the manual) and place the wifi settings on to the printer.

The issue you have is that your printer is not talking to your router... once it is then lion SHOULD pick it up automatically. :)

no problem... :)

For the record it was an issue with the printer and the router, it really didn't have anything to do with the mac. :D
