Since the other thread is the old Gen 7 model I've started a new one.

They are pretty decent machines, there was a "feature" with using non-HP drives that caused the fans to go mental due to the iLO not being able to read the temps properly.

No idea if that has been changed with a BIOS update.

Yeah I think that has been sorted via the BIOS update.

They look and spec great but the one thing that attracted so many to the first generations was the amazing price point. These though are 3 to 4 times the price of some of the old boxes.

I've got one of these at work I need to set up.

I was intending to get an iLO Advanced licence for it so I can use remote KVM, but the licences seem to be nearly £300! Is this the going rate or is there a cheaper way (but still needs to be legit).

EBay, there are ones for 30quid. Though the iLO 2 and 3 licences also work and I have to say iLO is a great feature. Just setup my raspberry pi as OpenVPN server to access this.

So I have been using the HomeServer for a couple of days now and I'm highly impressed with it! Tonight I've upgraded it to 16GB of ram and its running Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation with Plex Server. The OS is sitting on 128GB Samsung SDD and then the storage is covered by 2x3TB WD Red Raid 1.

I've just ordered the 8 Port HP switch to cover off networking:

I have to say that the iLO feature is amazing!

Those 8 port switches are hilariously overpriced for the feature of "being the same shape as the server". I could understand it if they could draw power from the server, or there was a set of contacts on them to interconnect with the MicroServer at faster than gigabit speeds. But they don't, and there isn't.
