Hp Proliant Microserver OS

guys i've been reading different things for days and days now but was just wondering what would you recommend for the proliant OS

all i want to do is back computers up(mac & 7) and use it as a media server (ps3, xbox, mac) ones i been reading about are

WHS(windows home server) = installed free trial, is it worth buying with vail coming out soon?

Windows 2008 r2 = more for business than home use?
i can get for free anyways with dream-spark but any gd

Amahi

ubuntu = people say its hard to get used to or set up

FreeNas = cheap and cheerful

any others?

just wondering if anyone like one better than the other

Thanks zarf think i'm going to give 2008 a better chance its just so complex i'm havent done anything complex in years, got so lazy i want software at a click of a button to do everything for me, also never heard of solaris so will give that a look up to.

no i aren't using raid atm, will do when i have it fully up and running however i will only be using raid 1 as just to keep my data safe. i found that all forms of raid make your data unstable so will only use mirroring.

i'm using windows 2008 now but to be honest it confuses me to no end with the home server it was just a few clicks of a buttons but this is roles and jobs and argh, i thought i was slightly tech savi but this is just putting me to shame.

Has anyone tried to stream media to ps3 with 2008r2 i, have no idea how to do it.

i would recommend WS2008r2 to anyone only if you know what you are doing or can pick thinks up fast(read forums on google), hard to do backups but keeps data protected easy access but i am too think and still cant work it
