Hi,

I recently brought one of these. I'm quite happy with it, however the graphics (as you would expect) are gutless.

Don't get me wrong I don't want to play games / HD video on this, however I would like to connect it to dual monitors and at a decent resolution.

Can anyone suggest a cheap graphics card that is proven to work / fit within this machine?

Many thanks,

Andy.

Sorry for the necro but the didn't seem much point making a new thread when the was already this one with valid info.

I am repurposing my G7 as a workstation and need to add a GPU, the PCI-E slots are all marked I.E PCI-E 2.0 4x, however the 4x slots all say 25w and the 16x slot 75w, is this that maximum TDP card they can support? how would using a PCI-E 6pin play into that? thanks.

Cards I have spare are a HD4850 (114w TDP) and a 7800GTX (81w TDP).

Holy thread revival batman!

Usually you'd attach the the 6 pin to one of the molex connectors (assuming we're talking about the same thing - GPU to a Molex to the PSU right?) and install the graphics card to the x16 port.

There is an power inlet on the high end cards to supply extra power via a molex. You may need to upgrade the PSU however as they are normally very weak in the servers and may not fully supply all components with the voltage required if you add a high end graphics card.

You can try it, recommend you attach the molex to the 6 pin if you want it to work, if it doesn't turn on or seems to malfunction you may need to upgrade the PSU.
